9.1 Week 9 – Lesson 1

If I had to pick one founder whose leadership clearly shaped the company, I’d choose Jeff Bezos. To me, his biggest strength was a mix of vision + discipline.

From a trait theory angle, he comes across as highly assertive, disciplined, and comfortable taking risks, with a strong long-term mindset. He also pushed creativity and experimentation, which helped Amazon evolve from a simple online bookstore into something much bigger.

In terms of behaviour, Bezos built a culture around high standards, “customer obsession,” and measurable execution. That feels partly transactional (targets, metrics, accountability), but also transformational because he convinced people to buy into a future that didn’t look obvious at the time (e-commerce at scale, and later AWS).

To finish, my view is that Amazon’s success wasn’t just “good strategy”it was leadership that constantly reinforced the same message: think long term, focus on the customer, and execute relentlessly. That’s why I choose Jeff Bezos.
